LOS ANGELES, AUG. 23—Los Angeles City Firefighters responded to find a house with very heavy black smoke showing. Fifty-eight firefighters battled for 44 minutes in the very hot and extraordinarily smoky structure to extinguish the flames. One neighboring structure also sustained damage because of flame impingement. One civilian (non-life-threatening) and two firefighters (heat exhaustion) were transported to the hospital during the incident.

BROOKLYN, NY, AUG. 23—FDNY Tower Ladder 119 used hooks to open up the cornice of a three-story, brick, mixed-occupancy building. The fire began on the first floor, traveled to the second floor and extended to the third floor before venting through the roof. Thirty-three apparatus and 138 firefighters were on scene. Six members suffered minor injuries.

SEATTLE, AUG. 24—Engine Company 13, backed up by Engine 27, responded to a fire at a large structure that was constructed of pallets at a homeless encampment under Interstate 5 near Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood. The flames were extinguished with a single attack line off of Engine 13, although foam was applied to smother hot spots.

DUNN, WI, JULY 13—The McFarland Fire and Rescue Department responded to the smell of smoke. On arrival, flames were visible in the garage area. A MABAS alarm was called. The Brooklyn Fire & EMS District, the Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department, the Fitchburg Fire Department, the Maple Bluff Fire Rescue Department, the Monona Fire and EMS Department, the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District, the Stoughton Fire Department, and the Truax Fire Department responded with firefighters and tenders.
