Hot Shots includes the New Orleans Fire Department on scene of a fire at a residence-turned-appliance repair shop, where members had to deal with an interior space that was packed front to back with clothes washers and dryers.

1. NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA, OCT. 26

More than 100 Los Angeles City Fire Department firefighters battled a blaze at an abandoned restaurant in defensive mode for two hours. The building sustained heavy damage during an extended period of fire that weakened the structural integrity, which caused a substantial collapse. Excavators assisted with the overhaul, and the department’s robotic firefighting vehicle worked in areas that were excessively dangerous for personnel to enter. Eight small fires in the area, within the span of approximately an hour, were investigated in addition to this one.

Dispatched units from Orange County Fire Rescue saw heavy smoke conditions from as far away as two miles from a fire at an automotive electrical shop. Arriving units reported heavy fire across a large expanse: The fire had spread to a tire shop, and numerous semitrailers were involved. The call was upgraded to two alarms, with special calls for additional units to rotate crews. Two aerial streams and several attack lines worked on containment and suppression.

3. SHELTON, CT, OCT. 12

Piles of cardboard and tires caught fire when a civilian attempted to burn cardboard of his own. His pile was exposed to a Conex box, which became fully involved, and that exposed two automobiles. Two handlines and a multiversal were used to knock down the fire. Companies had extensive overhaul.

4. NEW ORLEANS, OCT. 15

A one-story house that was converted into a commercial building was well-involved upon arrival of the first-due Squrt 27. The building served as a repair shop for clothes washers and clothes dryers. The appliances were packed into the building from front to rear, which hampered firefighting operations. There was extension of the fire to the occupied buildings to the left and the right of the fire building.
