Albany, NY, Jan. 7 - Members of the Albany, NY, Fire Department responded for a reported
structure fire with occupants jumping from the structure. First-arriving units found a vacant building well involved, with fire rapidly extending into the B-side exposure. A second alarm was transmitted. Multiple lines were deployed, and a search of the original fire building was initiated. Companies contended with high winds, bitterly cold temperatures and burning overhead live electrical wires. Approximately 50 firefighters and 13 apparatus were on scene. Baltimore, Jan. 20 - The Baltimore City Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire showing from the first floor of a middle-of-the-group, vacant dwelling. Battalion Chief 3 arrived, reported heavy fire on the first and second floors and ordered an exterior operation. Engine 8 reported three stories in the rear, concrete blocks covering the windows, heavy fire showing and a 2-inch hoseline being deployed. Command made it a working fire, which brought, among others, Truck 10 for ladder pipe operations in the rear. The fire extended to attached vacant exposures. Command requested the second alarm. Athol, MA, Feb. 14 - On arrival, units of the Athol Fire Department found a 1½-story structure completely engulfed in flames and immediately called for a full first-alarm assignment, bringing in mutual aid from Orange Fire-RescueEMS, Phillipston Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department. Crews had difficulty accessing the structure, because it was the last house on a narrow, dead-end street, which prevented access for any ladder operation. It took 20 firefighters who operated in very icy conditions several hours to completely extinguish the fire and overhaul the premises. PHOTO BY BRYAN FAVREAU
