Firehouse Magazine is honored to have teamed with the Detroit Fire Department to produce a Special Section in conjunction with the department’s 165th anniversary. Executive Fire Commissioner Chuck Simms and other key members of the DFD shared important components of the department’s successes over the past 10 years in terms of significantly decreased response times, its improved ISO rating, acquisition of new fire apparatus and ambulances and other achievements that correlate with the city of Detroit’s rebound from bankruptcy. The Special Section also delves into new training opportunities (e.g., firefighting, special operations, EV fires) that members are being provided and the DFD’s embrace of technology to further its service to the citizens of Detroit, including vehicle-to-vehicle communications and drones, among others.
