Types of Pumps

Basic – Kenneth E. Isman, P.E.

There are many different types of fire pumps used in fire protection systems including positive displacement pumps and centrifugal pumps. Within the family of centrifugal pumps there are horizontal split case pumps, vertical in-line pumps, vertical line shaft turbines, can pumps, and end suction pumps. Some of these pumps are single stage and some have multiple stages. Some of these pumps are single suction and some are double suction. This seminar will explain each different type of pump and why it might be selected for any specific fire protection system.
