This course is intended for hazmat or regional response team leaders or senior technicians who may be assigned to work alongside, or support, other special operations response teams.
Hazmat and regional response teams have taken on a larger homeland security role in recent years. During the accidental or intentional release of hazardous materials, hazmat response teams must be prepared to work alongside other specialized response teams to bring the incident to a safe resolution.
This course will prepare students to conduct joint tactical operations with the bomb squads, meth/clan lab teams, FBI - Hazmat/WMD teams, and crime scene investigators (CSI). Students will conduct threat assessments, field screening, and laboratory submission of suspicious substances.
Students will learn practical skills and procedures for assisting and supporting technical rescue teams and urban search & rescue task forces during rescue operations. The course will cover procedures for deploying hazmat teams to stand by at special events, including participating in Joint Hazard Assessment Teams (JHAT) with federal response agencies. Students will learn to access the resources of the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center to support special operations response and planning.
Note - Exact course content may vary based upon availability of participating special operations teams.
