The decisions made by the Engine Officer directly impact the safety of everyone on the fireground. The morning session will examine the fireground decision-making process regarding hose line selection, placement, and stretching techniques for fires in private dwellings, multiple dwellings, high-rise, and commercial buildings. Students will learn to separate what works from what doesn’t and why.

ENGINE COMPANY ERRORS - THE DIRTY DOZEN

The afternoon session will examine the twelve most common tactical errors made by engine companies on the fireground. These errors have led to firefighter injuries and deaths. Students will learn how to recognize and avoid making these errors.

About the Instructor

Ray McCormack is a 28 year veteran of the FDNY and a Lieutenant with Ladder 28 in Harlem. He was formally a Lieutenant assigned to Engine 69 for over ten years. He is a contributor to WNYF (With New York Firefighters) magazine, Fire Engineering, Fire Nuggets, International Fire Buyer and thehousewatch.com. He has presented at FDIC and FDIC East, Firehouse Expo, Firehouse Central and Firehouse World. He is the creator behind Training Minutes on FireEngi-neering.com where his tips on Engine Tactics appear. He is the founder of liveburntrain-ing.com, which provides firefighter training and benefit seminars. He lectures frequently on the role of the company officer, engine and ladder company tactical operations. In 2009, he delivered the Keynote Speech at FDIC.

Registration begins at 8 am, Class from 9am to 4pm. Lunch from 12pm to 130pm.
