Collingswood firefighters pulled two women from the second story of a burning apartment Tuesday and both were hospitalized with injuries.

Firefighters in a New Jersey community just east of Philadelphia rescued two women from a second-story window during an early morning apartment fire.

NJ.com reports that firefighters responded to a fire that began at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at an apartment building on Haddon Avenue in Collingswood.

When crews arrived, they found the women hanging out of the window trying to get air as smoke poured out from behind them. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the women and rescue them from the blaze.

One woman was taken to the burn unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center with serious injuries, while the other was in stable condition at Cooper University Hospital, according to Collingswood Fire Chief Keith Davis.

The blaze, which crews brought under control in about 30 minutes and was deemed accidental, damaged four apartments and two commercial storefronts.
