Four-Alarm Fire Damages Buildings in Buffalo, NY

Buffalo firefighters battled the downtown blaze for more than four hours before bringing it under control.

A four-alarm fire caused extensive damage to several buildings in downtown Buffalo Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters initiated an interior attack, but were evacuated when conditions changed, WIVB reported.

Flames were observed several floors up and it was difficult for crews to access it.

All downtown courthouses as well as county buildings were closed due to the incident.

It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control.

Buffalo fire officials reported at least four buildings sustained extensive damage including one on Church Street where the loss was set at $4.6 million while the Prudential Building suffered $900,000 million.

A firefighter suffered dehydtation during the operation.

The fire remains under control.
