Jacksonville, FL. Firefighters Tackle Fire in Parking Garage at Airport

There were two collapses during the operation in the hourly garage at Jacksonville Internationa Airport.

Flights at Jacksonville International Airport were halted Friday afternoon after a fire in a parking garage.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Powers told The Jacksonville Times Union the department began to receive reports of smoke shortly after 12 p.m.

There were about 50 vehicles involved in the garage which experienced a partial structural collapse to the second and third floors, followed by a secondary collapse about 30 minutes later, Powers said.

It has not been determined what type of vehicle started the fire.
