A massive fire tore through a lumber warehouse in Miami early Friday morning, sending plumes of smoke into the air and prompting a large emergency response, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

Fire crews were dispatched at 6:06 a.m. to the Little River Building Home Supply at 7737 NE Second Ave., where they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. The incident was quickly upgraded to a Code 1 working fire, prompting the deployment of additional firefighting units, according to MFR.

Firefighters confirmed that no one was inside. Roughly 10 minutes in, concerns about the building’s structural stability forced crews to evacuate due to the risk of collapse. Crews then attacked the flames from outside using hose lines and aerial devices.

The fire has been burning for over two hours, and additional units were called to assist. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion and a back injury.

Miami Fire Investigation Unit is on the scene but will investigate once the fire is fully under control.
