Multiple businesses were damaged in a two-alarm fire at a store front in Thomaston on Tuesday night.

Fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire in the area of Main and Park Streets and found that the building housing Patti’s Place restaurant and other businesses was ablaze, according to the Thomaston Police Department and the Terryville Volunteer Fire Department.

Terryville firefighters said they responded to the scene to provide mutual aid around 10:15 p.m.

The frigid temperatures made for a number of challenges as firefighters worked to suppress the flames.

“When it’s this cold, everything freezes, from hoses and other tools, our fire apparatus, to our firefighters and their gear,” the Terryville Fire Department wrote in a news release.

Crews from Terryville assisted at the scene for about six hours.

“We share in the sadness of the business owners and the town of Thomaston who were affected by this devastating fire,” Terryville fire officials said.

According to police, the scene remained active in the morning hours and left portions of Main Street, Park Street, East Main Street and High Street closed.
