A Chicago firefighter is recovering in the hospital on Tuesday while operating at a building fire Monday.
Firefighters were on the scene quickly but the fire was advancing Chicago Deputy District Chief Kelly Burns told WGN.
“We had one firefighter go through the floor. He was quickly rescued by the members of squad two, one of our heavy rescues in the city. They had him out within, I’m going to say under a minute.”
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of second and third-degree burns.
Sources told reporters the injured man is a third generation firefighter. His grandfather was a high-ranking officer while his father was a deputy district chief.
