Fire Tears Through Pallet Plant in Maywood, IL

Maywood and firefighters from other departments battled the block-long building fire for several hours.
April 5, 2026

Fire ripped through a block-long building in Maywood Saturday afternoon.

Nearby residents reported hearing explosions and seeing a fireball at F&L Pallets about 2 p.m. No one was inside as the business had closed for the day, abc7 reported.

Strong winds hampered the firefighters' efforts by fanning and spreading the blaze that led to the collapse of the structure where crates and rubber also are stored.

"We have contained the fire, but it's not totally out. We're in the process of trying to breach a wall on the south side of the property in order to get a little access from the street. It doesn't appear at any time that we will make entry into the building. Will stay strictly defensive," Maywood Fire Department Chief Craig Bronaugh said.

The cause is under investigation.
