SAGINAW, MI — A Saginaw boy is back on the ground after spending some time on a roof, thanks to the efforts of some local firefighters.

At 7:33 p.m. on Monday, April 27, Saginaw firefighters received an alarm of a boy, approximately 8 years old, on a roof of a two-story house in the 700 block of Waller Street, said Chief Brandon Hausbeck. Crews arrived at the scene less than two minutes later, Hausbeck said.

The boy was seated atop a gable on the roof, video footage of the incident shows.

“He wasn’t too panicked,” Hausbeck said.

The boy had apparently climbed out of a second-story window and had to navigate a precarious path to his position on the roof, Hausbeck said.

Crews used ground ladders to reach the roof. Footage shows firefighters conversing with the boy for a bit, before one of them gathers him in his arms. The firefighter then scoots down the roof and hands off the boy to a colleague standing on the ladder. The boy wraps his arms around this second firefighter, who slowly carries him to the ground.

The boy was all smiles as the firefighter handed him to a female parent or guardian who was on scene.

“It all happened pretty quick,” Hausbeck said. Crews were on scene for about 10 minutes, he added.
