Nov. 25--DURHAM -- Two children and an adult were transported to Duke University Hospital on Thanksgiving Day after a townhouse fire broke out in northern Durham.

Another person passed out at the fire scene, and a total of 14 people were displaced temporarily, fire officials reported.

Durham firefighters got the call at 12:57 p.m. to a two-story building that included four townhouses at 2006-B Peppertree St., according to Capt. David Griffith of the Durham Fire Department.

Flames were pouring from sides A and C on the first floor and the fire spread quickly to the second floor, Griffith said. Firefighters requested another pumper to fight the fire.

Medics transported a man and two children from Unit B to Duke University Hospital, and other medics treated a resident at the scene who had passed out.

About 14 people were affected by the fire due to power having to be cut to the entire building because of extensive damage to Units B and C.

The Red Cross is providing temporary housing to two adults and two children who live in Unit D. The other residents were able to arrange for emergency housing.

The identities of those injured and their conditions were not available Friday.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
