Nov. 21--CASHMERE -- Amanda Shaver was driving home after dropping off her boyfriend at work this morning when she lost control of her car and went over the embankment just west of the Cottage Avenue Bridge in Cashmere.
No one saw her leave the Highway 2/97 and when her car came to rest, it was teetering on the steep riverbank. "I was afraid to lean, open the door, or do anything," the 22-year-old Wenatchee woman said. "I seriously thought I was going into the river."
When no one arrived to help, she used her cellphone to call for help about 7:45 a.m. She said she tried for 20 minutes to describe her location to dispatchers, saying she didn't go through a guard rail. She also described houses across the Wenatchee River.
From that, Chelan County Deputy Brent Patterson found tracks in the snow leading to the river and found her in her car.
He radioed for help and firefighters from Chelan County Fire District No. 1 responded with a strap to tie the car off to a tree.
Shivering in the cold, sipping an iced coffee, Shaver said she was thankful she didn't end up in the river and was found, unharmed.
