Idaho Firefighters Battle Haystack Fire
--
Nov. 20--Kuna firefighters were able to save most of a 500 ton stack of hay that ignited early Sunday morning.
Crews cut the stack of "A number one, top-quality dairy hay" when they arrived on scene, said Kuna Fire Department Battalion Chief Doyle McPherson.
Firefighters used heavy equipment to push away the burning hay -- about a third of the stack -- and isolate it in a field.
The fire was reported at 5:26 a.m. Sunday near Poen Road and Swan Falls Road.
Internal heat inside the stack ignited the fire, McPherson said.
Crews were on scene until just after noon. The fire would be monitored but allowed to burn itself out, McPherson said.
No structures were threatened.
