Nov. 18--SAN PEDRO -- Firefighters rescued two workers after they fell into an underground fuel tank in San Pedro.
Emergency responders received a call for a rescue around noon Friday at a chemical treatment plant in the 3000 block of N. Gaffey Street.
Both men, both in their 20s, are believed to have fallen 40 feet into the fuel tank after they were overcome by fumes at the site, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence said.
As of 2:30 p.m., both men have been rescued.

Over 70 worked to rescue the men, one of whom is believed to have suffered a broken leg from the fall.
Both were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
