A two-alarm fire broke out Tuesday at a northwest Harris County apartment complex.
Firefighters were sent to the Willowbend Apartments at 13949 Bammel North Houston Road near Veterans Memorial at 9:15 a.m.
Fire officials with the Champions Fire Department said the flames started in an upstairs unit and spread through a common attic.
"I was sleeping and my roommate was getting ready to leave for work so it was a shocker. I walked out in my pajamas and then ran back in to grab a few things," resident Britini McBeth said.
The roof was destroyed in one section of the complex.
Eighteen units were affected with 10 apartments receiving major fire and smoke damage, officials said.
"This unit had a common attic, which keeps the fire from being contained into one specific area. But the firefighting crews that arrived were able to stop it on both ends before it traveled the length of the building," said Chief Dan Shelor with the Champions Fire Department.
There's no word yet on a possible cause.
No injuries were reported.
