Nov. 05--Two people are dead after an RV pulling another vehicle left the road while traveling north on U.S. 59 between Splendora and Cleveland.

According to news reports and a passersby, the motor home caught fire about 1 p.m. after going into the tree line between the highway and nearby railroad tracks.

The accident happened near Fostoria Road, just north of the Montgomery-Liberty County line.

Among the first people on the scene were five students from the Cleveland Fire Academy at the Cleveland Fire Department who were also northbound on the highway.

The students and others were not able to get the RV driver out, a passerby said.

Firefighters from Cleveland, Splendora, Tarkington and New Caney responded to the scene.

Initially, all northbound lanes of U.S. 59 were closed near the accident scene, but officials reportedly opened one lane about 3 p.m.
