Portland firefighters lifted a pickup truck off a man who had been pinned underneath in an early morning wreck on North Lombard Street.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was trapped under the truck, which rolled onto its side in the area of 13225 North Lombard shortly before 2 a.m. The man sustained life-threatening injuries.
Two other people who had been in the truck also were ejected and found in a nearby field. They are expected to survive their injuries.
When firefighters arrived, they found the man trapped under the truck. They circled the vehicle, then lifted it. "Even though we carry lots of specialized equipment, strength turned out to be the quickest and most efficient way to rescue him," said Battalion Chief Terry Munro.
Portland police are investigating the cause of the wreck.
