Sept. 12--The intersection of U.S. 34 and Interstate 25 has reopened after a tanker truck accident and fire on Sunday night had closed the intersection for close to 12 hours.

The Colorado Department of Transportation announced at 9:35 a.m. Monday that the highway has been repaired after the accident and both directions of U.S. 34 as well as all ramps to I-25 are now open.

Several travelers called emergency crews beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday after a fuel tanker turned over on its side and caught on fire. Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 34 were closed by CDOT through this morning to assess the damage to the highway.

Firefighters from Loveland, Poudre, Berthoud, Windsor and Johnstown fire districts worked to contain the fire and the source material from the truck. The fire was out by 12:49 a.m. this morning, according to news release from the Loveland Police Department. The agency did not have any information regarding the status of the truck's driver or if there were any passengers.
