Three-Alarm Fire in N.H. Destroys Three Buildings
HOOKSETT, N.H. --
Crews battled a three-alarm fire that started at a meat packing company in Hooksett Sunday morning, according to fire officials.
Firefighters were called to the scene at Garos Meat Packing Company on Pleasant Street just after 4:30 a.m. The flames quickly spread to a second and third building.
"I was sleeping and the heat just woke me up, we got out, cleared the house. It was bad," said Bill Gosselin, who awoke to the flames.
All three buildings were destroyed in the blaze, said officials. They include a barn, a home and the old slaughterhouse.
The fire originated in the barn, said fire officials.
There were no reports of any injuries, said authorities.
A neighbor said she was able to alert the residents of the home before it collapsed. Mary Scott said saw the flames and ran across the street. Scott said she pounded on the door but no one answered, so she threw a rock through a window to wake them up.
"I'm banging and banging and I'm screaming at the top of my lungs to get out," Scott said. "I could hear my husband say, 'you've got to get out of there, the house is now on fire!' I went and got a rock and threw it out the window and then I could hear them yelling inside and I'm yelling, 'get out! Get out! Your house is on fire!'"
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
