COLFAX, Calif. --

A big rig carrying pet supplies caught fire Tuesday along westbound Interstate 80 near Colfax.

The fire occurred along the side of the freeway at Secret Town Road around 4 a.m.

At first, the fire department received a report that the truck's tires were on fire.

Less than 10 minutes later, another caller reported the truck was engulfed in flames.

Mixed in with the pet food, toys and other accessories, firefighters found insulated containers full of exotic fish.

The fish survived the blaze and were handed over to Placer County Animal Control.

Fire crews also spotted frogs jumping around in the mess, but could not find any other reptiles in the load.

Fire crews from Colfax had difficulty fighting the blaze because of a lack of water in the remote area.

A water tender made several deliveries while crews worked to extinguish the flames.

After the fire was put out, crews had to unload the burned cargo before they could move the truck.

The truck blocked the slow lane of the freeway, but traffic was getting by.

Nobody was injured in the fire.
