BARABOO, Wis. --
A fire Thursday night could have had deadly consequences had it not been for a quick-thinking neighbor.
A fire broke out in an apartment on the 100 block of Pine Street in Baraboo, trapping Robin Bortz behind a wall of flames.
"Robin was going to be coming out to go pick up her laundry, Bortz mother, Beverly Bortz said. She needed to go down into the basement to do that. That's when she saw everything was on fire."
But luckily, Robins neighbor from across the street, Delmarcus Burnette, saw the flames and immediately ran to help. Burnette scaled a porch railing and knocked out a second-story window to rescue Bortz.
"I just climbed up the side, went up there, ripped the screen out and pulled her out," Burnette said.
Baraboo police officer Mike Pichler was first on the scene, but because of the Burnette's help his job was made easier.
"My sergeant was able to locate a ladder from a neighbor's house that we were able to get them down from the roof," Pichler said.
The fire was put out in just a few minutes. Burnette's actions, however, will be remembered for a lifetime.
"There was somebody in there, so I just climbed up, Burnette said. I didn't really think about it. I just wanted to help."
"She has some wonderful neighbors here who are very good, Bortz' mother said. Hes a superman."
Bortz is doing fine. There is no word on what caused the fire, but investigators said it's purely accidental.
