N.H. Firefighters Help Rescue Calf From Pond

NORTHWOOD, N.H. -- Firefighters and passers-by rescued a calf that went through the ice in Northwood on Friday. Firefighters said the original call reported people through the ice. But on their way to the scene, they found out people were on the ice trying to rescue a cow. Two men were able to help the calf out of the water and onto the ice before firefighters arrived. It took as many as eight men to tie straps around the calf and drag it to safety.

Firefighters and passers-by rescued a calf that went through the ice in Northwood on Friday.

Firefighters said the original call reported people through the ice. But on their way to the scene, they found out people were on the ice trying to rescue a cow.

Two men were able to help the calf out of the water and onto the ice before firefighters arrived. It took as many as eight men to tie straps around the calf and drag it to safety.

No people went through the ice. Firefighters said they werent sure if the calf would survive.

Firefighters said that was one of multiple calls they had to respond to Friday.

They closed Route 43 for downed power lines at 6:30 a.m. They said they also checked on a car off the road on their way to the pond.
