SAN LEON, Texas --
Firefighters received a strange greeting when they went to a burning home in San Leon.
"We pull up and people usually are saying, 'Help me!'" San Leon Assistant Fire Chief Scott Lyons said. "These guys were trying to run us off."
The homeowners in the 200 block of 18th Street were asking the firefighters to leave Saturday, even though their home was on fire.
Lyons said he has never seen anything like that before in his 16-year career.
"They said, 'No, you don't need to get in there,'" said Lyons. "I said, 'You don't understand, we have to get in there and look for fire.'"
Lyons said that once firefighters got inside they discovered more than 100 pot plants and drug paraphernalia. Investigators said they think the homeowners were selling it.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office is now investigating.
Investigators said the fire may have been sparked by an overloaded breaker.
