MORAGA, Calif. -- Firefighters had their hands full Tuesday night battling a two-alarm fire that left a commercial office building in Moraga completely destroyed.
Area firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at 1100 Moraga Way just before 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. By the time crews arrived, flames were shooting up through the roof of the building, with the southern end of the office already consumed.
"We set up [and] tried to make access up on the roof and get some water on the fire,” said Orinda Fire Marshall Michael Mentink. “The tile roof and the fact that it was on the second floor slowed us down quite a bit. We had to go into defensive mode and use heavy truck aerial streams to knock the fire down.”
Crews were able to bring the under control a few hours later, but not before flames completely gutted the two-story building. Firefighters from Moraga, Orinda, and San Ramon responded to the call.
No one was injured in the fire.
Fire personnel remained on the scene late Tuesday evening, putting out hot spots, assessing the structural safety of the building and collecting evidence for an investigation into the fire. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
