TUOLOUMNE COUNTY, Calif. --
A fire has charred more than 4,500 acres in a remote area of the Stanislaus National Forest.
The blaze broke out July 26 north of Twain Harte and near the middle fork of the Stanislaus River.
Firefighters have set some small blazes in their battle against the Knight fire, which is about 40 percent contained.
Some roads and recreation areas have been closed as crews battle the flames.
The Crandall Peak staging area and Sand Bar Flat Campground have been closed to the public. Officials are also keeping people away from Spring Gap.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
