Dry and windy conditions are keeping New Mexico on a fire alert.
A red flag warning is in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for all of New Mexico due to strong winds and low humidity.
Just after noon Wednesday, firefighters worked to put out a fast-moving grass fire near a home in Belen. It was mostly contained by 12:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the fire burning on the Isleta reservation since Monday flared up again, sending more smoke into the air.
At last report, the fire was about 90 percent contained. Firefighter said they hoped to have it 100 percent contained soon.
The fire has burned 315 acres so far.
Officials said the fire danger across the entire state is very high.
The National Weather Service said a period of intense winds is anticipated for Wednesday and Thursday as a vigorous Pacific storm system slides over the region. Very little in the way of precipitation was expected with the system and humidity will be quite low -- especially on Wednesday with an increase in humidity reading expected across the western half of the state on Thursday as temperatures cool a bit.
The strongest winds will be moving over the area later Wednesday into Thursday morning. Higher ridge tops have the possibility of seeing more than 50 mph gusts later Wednesday and into Thursday morning with similar gust readings possible across the east slopes and eastern plains of New Mexico Thursday morning and afternoon.
