Fires have burned 1,800 acres northeast of Mineral Wells in Palo Pinto County, destroying 15 homes.
As victims searched for any mementos, helicopters doused hot spots and flare-ups.
Several people said they barely had time to escape fast-moving flames.
"It's just bad stuff, man, to see everything my parents work for their whole lives just go away in an instant, no time to grab anything. It's all gone now," resident Ben Gray said.
Firefighters were able to save more than 100 structures, most of them homes.
