The windy weather across Colorado is being blamed for Tuesday's wildfires and wrecks.
Three homes had to be evacuated south of Bennett Tuesday as fire crews rushed to contain a 20-acre wildfire that was being quickly fueled by the high winds.
About 160 acres burned before the fire was contained at 12:45 p.m. It did not reach any homes.
Firefighters from five volunteer departments -- Bennett, Byers, Strasburg, Sable Altura and Rattle Snake -- were sent to the scene. They used heavy equipment such as road graders and bulldozers to contain the fire.
Some firefighters remained in the area Thursday afternoon to put out hot spots and to prevent flare-ups.
The cause and origin of the field fire remains under investigation by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. The fire, located near Arapahoe County Road 137 and Arapahoe County Road 18, started just before 11 a.m.
Bennett is 20 miles east of Denver.
Another grass fire right next to the freeway caused gridlock along Interstate 25 near Surrey Ridge. Crews successfully put out the flames but rubberneckers in the area caused a lot of people to be late for work Tuesday morning.
And the Colorado State Patrol confirms that wind was the cause of semitrailer rollover on Interstate 70 near the C-470 overpass. The truck was empty so it didn't weigh enough to sustain the power of those gusts. The driver has some scrapes and bruises but will be all right.
