Firefighters continued fighting a brush fire in Bandera County Tuesday night south of Medina, Texas.
Jan Fulkerson of the Texas Forest Service said heavy vegetation, low humidity, and winds are causing the fire to continue spreading.
"This fire is burning in very heavy vegetation, and that's driving this fire, we have very low humidity and also some wind pushing it. "
The fire that has been burning since about noon Tuesday has charred about 450 acres.
Fire officials said the fire was started by someone who was welding in the area.
No homes are being threatened.
However, eight homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Firefighters from various agencies are using water dropping helicopters to squelch the blaze.
Fire officials said the brush fire is 75 percent contained but the burned area will continue to smolder for about a week.
"I'm sure they will be out here again tomorrow," Fulkerson said. "I'd like to say they'd get it contained by tomorrow, but because it's burning in such thick vegetation, this will be smoldering for a week or so to come."
