Officials report the fire, about 20 miles north of town, was 10 percent contained Monday. A nearby campground remained closed.
Aided by rain, crews were making good progress on the fire, said Maggie Dowd, Fire Information Officer for the Color Country Fire Management Area South Zone.
The fire was started Saturday by lightning five miles west of Pintura. Fire crews expected to contain the fire by Wednesday evening.
Strong thunderstorm activity Sunday pushed the Jones Fire southeast, increasing its acreage.
Erratic winds also posed difficulty for firefighters and air operations.
Two C-130 air tankers from Hill Air Force Base worked the southeast side of the fire into Sunday night.
The Oak Grove Campground will remain closed until further notice.
