More than 150 firefighters have contained the 1,600-acre Middle Ridge Fire 30 miles northwest of St. George, fire information officer David Boyd said Sunday.

The fire near the Nevada border was started Wednesday by lightning.

A wildfire that burned nearly 1,500 acres just south of Levan in Juab County also was contained over the weekend.

The Salt Creek Fire was burning in juniper, sage and grass on private and Bureau of Land Management land.

It was started by lightning more than a week ago.
