GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. (CP) -- Two forest firefighters were killed in a chain-reaction collision with a truck and a grader Thursday near Peace River.
The two men were contract workers from the Woodland Cree First Nation, said Rob Harris, spokesman for Alberta Sustainable Resource Development.
They were with a group of four who were on their way to a firefighting camp near remote Haig Lake.
Police said the pickup the firefighters were in was northbound when it collided with the back of a tractor-trailer headed in the same direction.
The impact send the pickup careening into the opposite lane, where it was it struck by a southbound grader.
Two other firefighters remain in hospital with undetermined injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver and grader driver were both unhurt.
