Arizona Wildland Firefighters Struck By Lightning

Two firefighters were struck by lightning Thursday while battling a group of small fires on Mount Graham.

SAFFORD, Ariz. (AP) -- Two firefighters were struck by lightning Thursday while battling a group of small fires on Mount Graham.

The firefighters were both taken to a hospital in Safford for further evaluation. The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately known, said Gail Aschenbrenner, a spokeswoman for the Coronado National Forest.

The firefighters, both from Glendora, Calif., were part of a crew fighting a small group of lightning-caused fires on Mount Graham in eastern Arizona. Their names were not immediately released.

Thunderstorms were reported along the eastern part of the state on Wednesday and Thursday.
