The Rose fire, which moved outside the burn area Tuesday, was charring scrub brush and conifers on the eastern part of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, said Dorman McGann, a fire information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.
No structures were threatened. An evacuated fire watchtower on Rose Peak had been threatened early Wednesday.
No containment date was set.
Officials began the prescribed fire last week, burning about 5,000 acres before the blaze jumped out of the intended lines.

DIAMOND FIRE
SUNFLOWER, Ariz. (AP) -- A fire burning in the Tonto National Forest was contained Wednesday, a forest spokesman said.
The fire burned about 1,200 acres before being contained, said Tonto spokesman Vinnie Picard. He declined to say whether investigators thought the human-caused fire was started accidentally or intentionally.
The blaze began Sunday, burning mainly grass and chaparral. It quickly moved to within a quarter-mile of Sunflower.
Authorities were offering a reward leading to those responsible for starting the blaze near the community of about 20 homes. Sunflower is about 50 miles northeast of Phoenix.
