No fatalities or injuries were reported, said Cliff Pearlberg, a fire spokesman for the State Land Department.
Investigators believe the blaze, which was about six to 10 acres, started in one of the homes that burned.
About 75 firefighters worked to build lines around the fire, which was not threatening nearby structures by mid-afternoon Thursday.
Initially, 100 structures were threatened.
``Firefighters are starting to breathe a little easier. They feel good about keeping it where it is,'' said Ron Melcher, a fire coordinator for the State Land Department.
It was not known if there were evacuations, Melcher said.
Officials said the blaze caused downed power lines and residential propane tank explosions. Two semitrailer vans were also destroyed.
