A training exercise turned into the real thing at a Dell Rapid quarry Thursday night. One man is critically injured and several others were injured after an explosion.
A salesman from a fire truck and equipment company was demonstrating how to lift heavy machinery with large air bags. When the bags were being deflated the weight of the load shifted and one of the bags exploded severely injuring the salesman.
Thirty to forty fireman from Dell Rapids, Colton and Baltic were present at the time. Many of them suffered some hearing loss from the explosion. The victim was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he is in critical condition.
