A Marshfield firefighter was seriously injured Saturday while assisting at a brush fire.

Assistant Chief Ed Noland, 60, was transported to a local hospital after a branch from a burning tree fell on him, Fire Chief Michael Taylor told The Springfield News-Leader.

The branch was between six and eight inches thick and fell close to 20 feet before striking Noland in the head.

"Hopefully he'll recover, but the injuries are very severe," Taylor told KSPR-TV.
