The Norfolk firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze at a vacant apartment Sunday afternoon.

NORFOLK—One Norfolk firefighter sustained minor injuries after battling a blaze at an unoccupied East Ocean View apartment Sunday afternoon.

The fire, which was on the first floor of a three-story apartment building, was under control in roughly 30 minutes, said Norfolk Fire Department battalion chief Garry Windley. The injured firefighter was transported to a hospital, and no others were hurt.

He said all utilities were shut off at the building, which was on the 9500 block of 20th Bay St.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and fire marshals are on the scene, Windley said.
