The Quincy Fire Department and companies from around the region are responding to a massive five-alarm blaze on Newport Avenue in the city.
Capt. Daniel Gorman of the Quincy Fire Department told the Herald the fire involves four buildings and that two have collapsed.
Gorman said the buildings involved were for a mix of residential and commercial uses.
Quincy police Capt. John Dougan said between 30 and 40 residents have been evacuated.
He said one of the buildings was fully involved when first responders arrived.
Gorman said one firefighter suffered a minor injury to his hand.
Video from the scene shows roaring flames pouring from the buildings. A massive bloom of black smoke is shown rising above the area and can be seen from the Southeast Expressway.
Quincy police have closed portions of Newport Avenue and Beale Street to allow for fire companies to fight the blaze.
“Beale St closed from Wollaston Center to Harvard St. Newport Ave from Furnace Brook northbound. Please avoid the area,” the department said in a tweet.
State police said troopers were responding to assist with road closures in the area.
Fire companies from Randolph, Braintree and Quincy are among the departments responding to the massive blaze.
The National Weather Service in Boston shared a radar image on Twitter that shows the smoke from the fire being picked up by weather satellites.
