A disabled elderly woman and several of her pets died in a fire that injured a Georgia firefighter Friday.
The fire broke out just before 7 p.m. in Cornelia home of Jean Sensoe, 79, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. When crews arrived, they were told Sensoe was still inside.
As one of the firefighters was trying to rescue the woman, the house's roof collapsed on him. The Demorest firefighter suffered burns on his back and wrist, and he was taken to the hospital, where he was released later Friday.
The woman lived with four cats and two dogs, and the animals died in the blaze, WXIA-TV reports. The woman's 18-year-old granddaughter also was in the house, and she survived, according to a GoFundMe page set up to pay for the 79-year-old woman's funeral expenses.
