CA Firefighter Injured Battling 2-Alarm Blaze

The Sacramento firefighter suffered minor burns in a fire that damaged three homes in a North Sacramento neighborhood and had dozens of firefighters responding.

A fire that spread to three houses in a North Sacramento neighborhood injured a Sacramento Fire Department firefighter after sending multiple engines and dozens of responders to the scene.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. in the 1000 block of Andy Circle, a residential area off Bell Avenue in the Robla area. The fire was soon upgraded to a second alarm.

Three homes were damaged in the fire, one firefighter was transported with minor burns, and no civilians were injured, the Fire Department said in an update just after 1:20 p.m.

Wesley Gibson, who lives across the street from the houses, said he was in his backyard when the fires broke out.

Gibson heard screams for help, and when he emerged from his yard, he saw his neighbor struggling to stave off rising 12-foot flames with a garden hose, he said.

“I ran over there, grabbed the hose from her and was spraying up over the fence trying to stop it from hitting the neighbor’s house,” Gibson said. “But it took off so fast and the gas lines she said were on that side that I had to back off because I started hearing it roar.”

Gibson saw the fire initially burning at the rear of one house, but it quickly spread to two adjacent houses, he said.

“The whole fence was engulfed, the trees were engulfed, their back patio was already on fire,” he said.
