MUSKEGON, MI—Three children were rescued from an early Saturday morning house fire in Muskegon, according to the Muskegon Fire Department.
Two of the children were trapped on the roof while another was inside before firefighters and a Muskegon police officer saved them, according to a news release issued by the department.
The fire happened around 2 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 hour on Emerson Avenue near Roberts Street in Muskegon.
Firefighters were dispatched at 2:10 a.m. on a report of a possible structure fire with at least three children stuck inside.
Upon arrival, firefighters learned that two were trapped on the roof with one still inside. The child trapped inside was able to jump out of a second-story window and was caught by a Muskegon police officer who was on scene when firefighters arrived, the release reads
Firefighters evacuated the children on the roof while crews entered the structure under heavy smoke conditions and located a fire on the first floor.
The fire was extinguished soon afterward. A search of the home was completed but no one else was found inside the home.
Crews remained on scene for some time after the fire was knocked down to see if the home was salvageable.
Firefighters thanked the Muskegon police officer for assisting them at the scene. ProMed and DTE Energy also assisted firefighters working the early morning fire.
