CT Firefighter Burned in Large Three-Story House Blaze
VERNON, CT—Three families were displaced and one firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a major fire Sunday evening on Talcott Avenue, according to the American Red Cross and Fire Chief Stephen Eppler.
Eppler said the fire erupted in a three-story, three-family home at 92 Talcott Ave. and was reported at 5:08 p.m.
The blaze, which destroyed all three apartments within the downtown Rockville home, was under control in a couple hours, but cleanup efforts kept firefighters on the scene until about 11 p.m., Eppler said.
One firefighter was transported to Hartford Hospital with minor burns, but the inhabitants of the home escaped uninjured, he said.
The Red Cross said it is assisting three displaced families from the home. The families consist of five adults and two children, according to the organization.
Fire Marshal Daniel Wasilewski said early today that his office and police are investigating the cause of the fire.
He said officials decided to wait until today to begin the investigation because of the dark and wet conditions Sunday.
Multiple area fire departments were called on to contain the fire Sunday, including Ellington, Tolland, Bolton, and the Manchester 8th Utilities District, which provided mutual aid at the scene. The South Windsor, North Coventry, and Ellington Crystal Lake fire departments provided coverage at the Vernon Fire Department during the fire, Eppler said.
