One firefighter was injured and 14 people were displaced Thursday afternoon by a two-alarm fire in Newark, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at the three-story, wood-frame home at 35-37 West End Ave. around 1:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. The flames also extended to an adjacent home at 33 West End Ave., he said.
About 65 firefighters responded to the scene, officials say.
A firefighter was injured when the ceiling partially collapsed inside 35-37 West End Ave., Ambrose said. He was transported to University Hospital with complaints of neck, back and hip pain.
A fire captain was also evaluated by EMS at the scene, but he remained on duty.
Four adults from 35-37 West End Ave. were displaced, officials said. Nine adults and one child have been relocated from the adjacent house.
Firefighters brought the flames under control by 3 p.m., Ambrose said.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
