MI Firefighter Seriously Injured by Falling Debris

Two other firefighters also were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening while battling a house blaze in Northfield Township that had multiple departments responding.

NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MIA family escaped as fire burned their Northfield Township home Tuesday afternoon, but a firefighter battling the blaze was injured, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the house fire sometime before 2 p.m. June 16 in the 2000 block of East Northfield Church Road in the Whitmore Lake area, said Northfield Township Fire Chief William Wagner.

The firefighter suffered serious injuries when debris fell on their head and neck, officials said. The firefighter was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital and has been released, officials said.

Two other firefighters suffered injuries that were not life-threatening but required they be taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, officials said. Both have also been released, officials said.

The family was able to recover personal items and escape the home, which is a total loss, officials said. The family has secured temporary housing, officials said.

Fire departments from Superior, Scio, Salem and Ann Arbor townships, as well as Dexter and South Lyon assisted on the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
